When Barack Obama realized he had a good chance of winning the Presidency in 2008, he sat down with his people and came up with a very convincing battle cry, “Change You Can Believe In”. The President convinced the American people that if you did not want the country traveling down the same path Bush had things headed, that you needed to vote for him. To no surprise it worked.People were afraid of what lay ahead for the country and decided that Obama was the best candidate for the job. They elected him because he promised change for this great country, change for the better. Three years on the job and America is still struggling, still involved in two foreign wars (three if you count Libya) and are as divided politically as ever. Most American want what is best for the country, they could care less about political parties. Change has not come and Obama is running out of time. With the President seeing the lowest approval rating of his presidency, he has started positioning himself for the re-election run. The President is preparing to announce a major initiative to get people back to work. The plan is going to be a combination of tax cuts and government spending that will cost tax payers up to about $300 billion. The President is calling for tax incentives for businesses that hire un-employed workers and a public works package that will repair out dated bridges, roads and school buildings. Many are skeptical that the plan would even work. To no surprise, most Republicans describe the plan as un-needed government spending in a time when wasteful spending needs to be reined in.Hoping to convince some of his electorate that change is coming, Obama announced yesterday plans to decrease US troop levels in Iraq down to 3,000 by the end of the war. For those that remember, Obama promised during the election that if he was elected he would end the war in Iraq. So far he has not delivered on that promise. What he has managed to do is drag the country into another military conflict, this time with Libya. If Obama can decrease troop levels to 3,000 it would be a big boost for his popularity come election time. Military commanders and some politicians want to see levels decreased to 10,000 by the end of the year. Going against their wishes could show potential voters that the President is ready to fulfill some of his election promises. The President was given a very tough job when he was elected. The country was in a recession and headed down a path of potential destruction. People knew it would not be easy, but the President has brought many of his problems on himself. Some view him as lazy, they say he speaks but can’t deliver and many think he is simply over his head. One thing is for sure, he better start convincing the American people that he can deliver on the change he promised or change will be coming in 2012.
