How to Clean a Jewelry Box

It is interesting to see how and hear how many people clean their jewelry on a daily or weekly basis to keep it shiny and sparkly, but how few of those same people take the time to clean the jewelry box that the pieces are stored in. While jewelry boxes serve as protection for most jewelry pieces, they can quite easily get dirty inside despite having a lid or cover that would seem to preclude that from happening.

Here is a simple five step process to go about cleaning your jewelry box in order to make sure that your special pieces of jewelry stay clean when they are inside or outside of the box.

1. Take all of the jewelry out of the box and place them somewhere safe for the time being.

2. Clean out all of the areas where there are notches that hold things like rings or earrings. Use a soft cloth or something like a q-tip to work in between the gaps to get all of the dirt out. Using water works just fine for cleaning purposes. Using any type of chemical or cleaner puts the lining of your jewelry box at risk  and that is something you don’t want to do.

3. Clean the inside edges and corners. The corners are where you will find the most dirt and gunk so you may have to go over this area several time sin orde rot make sure it is nice and clean.

4. Clean the outside of the box. Using a cloth or rag, gently wipe the outside with clean water. The same statement that applied for inside the box applies to the outside as well. Since you do not know how chemicals or cleaners will react to the material, it is best to stay away from them and just use water.

5. The final step is to return the jewelry to the jewelry box. Make sure though that before you do, all of the pieces has been cleaned. Don’t ruin all of the cleaning you did to the box by placing dirty jewelry back inside.

Some people may have a large collection of jewelry and instead of using a jewelry box for storage they may have a jewelry armoire. If this is the case, you want to make sure that gets cleaned as well. If you are going to be out on the town wearing nice pieces of jewelry, you want to make sure that it is in good condition at all times as well as clean.
