In the case of normal people, they feel refreshed after sleeping according to their normal hours. Such is not the case with people undergoing a period of depression. They actually fell better after staying awake for the whole night through. Indeed, it is possible to treat people who are depressed by manipulating their waking and sleeping cycles to coincide with REM sleep, which happens to be the root cause of sleep deprivation.
