The rules implemented by stock paintball maintain the integrity of paintball by assuring that the winner is bound to be the most talented and capable player rather than the player with the best technology. This minor deviation from the original game provided a means of balancing the playing fields to be as fair as possible during competitions. Rules established standardize equipment for all players and limit the quantity of ammunition and air available to each of them. The end result is allocating the power in the game to strategy and skill.
Stock paintball sets very specific guidelines which all weapons must adhere to. All guns must be powered by single CO2 cartridges and pumped for the loading of one marker. The feeder and the barrel must be parallel to each other so that markers have to be tilted for loading during each round and are prohibited from holding more than 20 paintballs at any given time. 12 gram cartridges attached to the guns will fire within the range of 20 to 40 rounds without exceptions. All aspects of the guns from the way their CO2 cartridges attach to what kind of bore is permissible in their barrels is thoroughly standardized.
Players carry far lighter gear than for regular paintball games. Not being weighed down puts an increased emphasis on the agility and body movement of the players. They are less inclined to tire. Because participation requires less gear and stock paintball guns are relatively less expensive, there is also an economic advantage. Despite the weapons being extremely regulated, the games that are played are identical. Military simulations, manhunts, hostage rescue themes are included. Paintballs fired from stock guns move slower but the same safety procedures; including wearing goggles, should still be followed.
Stock class paintball is continuing to grow in popularity. It is both a return to the good old days for many old time players as well as an affordable introduction for new players wishing to learn and develop their skills to play the game.
