Residential construction companies vie for projects day in and day out and they do all they can to outbid their competitors.  Building homes is now a lucrative source of income and so are added projects such as home modification and exterior repairs.  Although residential construction is a profitable business, the income would stop just as soon as a project is finished.  This is why a professional contracting company should have a steady flow of construction leads.  There’s no rocket science involved in being able to generate contractor job leads.  It all begins with having good people skills, meaning, you have to be able to deal with different types of people from all walks of life.

So what do your people skills have to do with generating more income for your business?  You’re probably thinking that your degree in civil engineering coupled with sufficient capital should keep your business alive for years.  On the contrary, the old saying—no man is an island—still remains true to this day.  As a general contractor, you need to have a stable relationship with suppliers, fellow contractors and other people in the residential construction industry.

Your friends and colleagues could then look for possible residential construction projects among agencies or online firms where they have established contact.   They could easily give your information and your complete portfolio to probable clients or they could submit your contact details online.  If your fellow contractors are more experienced and have stayed in the business longer than you have, then they could also show you the ropes by sharing existing contacts that they have.  If there are extra projects that they could no longer handle, then you could be a subcontractor to them.  You can pay for each client that your colleagues will be giving you—and this is definitely money not wasted.  The few dollars that you pay for each lead could result into a hefty income and if you’re even lucky—more leads.

There are a lot of contractor job leads out there.  If you want to sift out the most probable clients, then you have to learn who to trust and turn to.  Your friends and fellow contractors are right there so don’t waste another second.
