We like to sit comfortably when we do sit – this goes for breakfast too. Many people like to put cushions on their nook seating to make them a bit more comfortable, which is in no way a bad thing. But there are some potential problems that you may want to consider – as well as some solutions to them.
Since the reason we have breakfast nooks in the first place, is to sit there and eat, we will of course spill some food from time to time. Some of that ends up on the seating, and – if you have them – on the cushions too. This is why we want to put loose cushions on those chairs – so that we may easily remove them and wash them. But what if the stains don’t come off? It is almost impossible to avoid spilling coffee or other such hard-to-remove foodstuffs now and then, so it would be better if it did not show too much. For this reason, I would never put white or lightly colored cushions on – but probably choose black. Boring? You may think so (I don’t), but much better in the long run. Stains will still show when they are new, but wash the cushion and the stain will be invisible in most cases after that.
Another trick is to make sure the fabric covering the cusions is either stain-proof or easy to clean. Vinyl covering is a possibility there for sure. If you want to keep your breakfast nook furniture looking nice and neat, try and start with your choice of cushions. Laquered chairs and tables can be wiped down and cleaned easily, but anytime there is textile involved, it gets a bit trickier. However, follow the advice given in this article, and you will have gone far towards having a low-maintenance breakfast nook set.
